Objective

Designing a newsletter article of a scientific nature. The goal was to produce an article with an attractive newsletter layout tailored to a general audience that does not posess an in-depth knowledge of the subject. I chose the topic on solar sails because space technology intrigues me and the first solar sail was scheduled to be launched around that period of writing (May - June 2005).

Description

One of the challenges I faced was ensuring that the newsletter is coherent and has a logical organization, while at the same time keeping readers interested in reading on. The introduction does not immediately immerse readers into the mechanisms of the solar sail, but captures readers with a scientific event (the launch of the solar sail). Details about the technology and mechanism details follow thereafter. The graphics break texts up and are essential for producing a more attractive layout. I also made sure that scientific content is adjusted for a general audience.
